Our anniversary

I am writing this while my husband is packing his suitcases because he will travel to Kinshasa tomorrow. Unfortunately he cannot stay longer and we could not celebrate our three year anniversary as we would have loved to. Going out to dinner, babysitter – you know, what couples do when they have an anniversary. Well, I have to see the positive side of all this. At least we had nine great days together and enjoyed every single one to the max. Time flies as I always say but it seems even faster whenever we are all together.

How we got married? We are kind of obsessed with Canada. We love this country and our dream was to get married in Cornwall/Ontario at the Town Hall. We drove all the way up there because the major told us that if we bring all the paperwork and a witness we could get married on “Thanksgiving” – which is a mayor Holiday in the U.S and Canada. So we were there on time with all our paperwork and my husband’s brother as a witness whom we picked up at MontrĂ©al airport.  ONE paper was missing however so she could not marry us right there and then.  Thinking positively we enjoyed our stay with my husband’s brother and drove back to New York. There we made an appointment to get married at the New York City Hall.

Three years ago, on October 17th, Jean and I were wed at the City Hall in New York City. It was very small ceremony and we did not even have a party after. In the evening my husband, his brother and I had a great dinner with some Bacardi Coco on our roof terrace. Simple and awesome, as we love it. I never thought that three years later our lives would be like this. I mean I always knew that there will be a lot of traveling involved; however, that we already have a son who will be two in two weeks! is just more I can ask for. I also never thought that we could comfortable live in our little one-bedroom apartment in Tudor City (or first apartment together) for two years. Just before our son was born we moved to Connecticut in a nice little house. How things change – and how fast! Now we don’t walk into our home anymore and are directly in the kitchen/living room/bathroom and bedroom. In Connecticut we have a backyard with a little porch to sit outside at night talking until two in the morning. In nature! Even though this is not our dream house, it is so full of warmth, full of memories, pictures and good food. How our lives changed and have gotten so much bigger. And it all started with a scarf during the General Assembly đŸ˜‰

I wish we could stay together every night, curled up on the couch as we used to do for the last couple of days – talking and drinking tea. (and wine!) I hope my son’s gift will be that he let’s us sleep in tomorrow morning. Then we will have a long breakfast and enjoy each others company while talking about the future. Remember my love when we used to have philosophy-breakfasts? Such good times.

I do remember the times when we walked the streets of New York City and bought ice-cream at the little deli at Tudor City to snuggled on the couch while watching a good movie. Why do I dwell in the past? Simply because there just so many great memories we already have they are present at all times. How we focused simply on each other for a while and now our son sleeps upstairs waiting – ready for all the years and adventures to come. Wow, we are heading into the fourth year of marriage. So insane – can you believe it?! I love my life. Life is good with you in it my love! You are always in my heart. Unconditionally! <3
