How to: Spaghetti Bolognese

Hello!

I haven’t done a “How-to” article on a recipe in a while so I thought it is about time again to do so. Today I made my mom’s delicious Spaghetti Bolognese. My mom was at work, my husband played with our son, so I was able to cook in peace without interruptions. I love to cook. It makes me happy and I love it even more if my dish turned out well and everybody enjoys it – obviously. I am not a huge meat-eater but I do love it once in a while. You can follow these recipe instructions easily and quickly; the meal fills you up and is for me some type of comfort food. I would like to share my mom’s basic Bolognese recipe that works, tastes great and is also a great party dish because it can be prepared ahead of time. It tastes even better the next day! There are many ways to experiment with flavors and spices. So let’s dive right in. Not literally. Or maybe – yes,  because it is so yummy! 😉

Ingredients

  • 1 tablespoon of Ghee
  • 2 onion
  • 2 cloves garlic
  • 1.6 lbs (750g) ground beef/pork mix
  • 2 carrots (shredded)
  • 2 celery sticks (chopped in cubes)
  • 1 pastinak (shredded)
  • 2 can diced tomatoes
  • 1 can tomato paste
  • 2 cup water
  • Chili Seasoning
  • chili powder
  • paprika powder (sweet)
  • oregano
  • basil
  • thyme
  • curry powder
  • 3 tsp salt
  • Freshly ground pepper

Instructions

  1. Heat Ghee in large pot
  2. Add ground beef/pork and cook until liquid is almost gone and meat is not red anymore
  3. Dice the onion and add to cooked beef/pork - cook on medium heat for 5 minutes
  4. Now add your tomato sauce and water and simmer for 10-15 minutes
  5. Then it is time for all the seasoning. It is always better to add the season last when meal is cooked. This way the flavor is even stronger
  6. Add all the seasoning mentioned above. (my mom always says "a lot of season takes away the smell of death of the meat" 🙂
  7. Stir until well combined. Let meat simmer for 5 minutes
  8. Serve!

Notes

Add the crushed or thin-minced garlic all the way at the end. Do not cook the garlic. If you cook it too long it tastes bitter!
